Carrie Bickmore among big winners at TV Week Logies

Channel Ten’s Carrie Bickmore won hearts and brought some tears to viewers of last nights TV Week Logie Awards as she walked away with the coveted Gold Logie.

Channel Ten’s Carrie Bickmore won hearts and brought some tears to viewers of last nights TV Week Logie Awards as she walked away with the coveted Gold Logie.

Beating out popular media partners Andy Lee and Hamish Blake, Offspring star Asher Keddie, The Block host Scott Cam and actor Stephen Peacocke to the prize, and at the podium, spoke candidly about the the dangers of brain cancer. Relaying the story of her late husband Greg, calling him “an incredibly brave man.”

“He was a great dad. He was a great husband. He was a great brother and he was a great friend, but he shouldn’t have had to go through that,” she said, holding back tears. She ended her speech by putting on a blue beanie and called on all viewers across the nation to wear a beanie the next day and start conversations in order to prevent brain cancer.

“I want to dedicate this award tonight to anyone that is going through a really shit time right now, anyone that’s supporting someone through a really tough time right now. Please believe that there will be a brighter day for you.”

Foxtel’s impressive selection of programs took home most of the wins in the drama categories. SoHo’s Wentworth, now on it’s third season, won Most Outstanding Drama, and it’s star Danielle Cormack winning Most Outstanding Actress. Showcase’s Devil’s Playground won Most Outstanding Telemovie or Miniseries.

Meanwhile long time favourite Home And Away was inducted into the Logies Hall of Fame – only the fourth program honoured in the history of the awards.

Fairfax and ABC’s investigation ‘Banking Bad’ on Four Corners won Most Outstanding Public Affairs Report, with reporter Adele Ferguson walking away with the statue.

Australia’s biggest night of nights for entertainment was held for the 19th time at the Palladium Ballroom in Melbourne’s Crown Towers. Performers included Meghan Trainor, Ricky Martin and The Script, with Sam Smith pulling out of the event last minute due to illness.
